The Michael J Wright Group is delighted to announce that Fingal County Council have approved a joint planning application, with Tetrarch Capital, to redevelop Howth Castle for retail, food and tourism uses.
Fingal County Council have given the green light to a redevelopment at Howth Castle which includes a new 150-seater restaurant in a striking glass-covered pavilion within the Castle’s stable-yard, a revamped cookery school together with a state-of-the-art wedding marquee located to the South of The Castle, and a range of retail stores.
Amenities within the Castle grounds and historic walled gardens will include a playground and picnic areas, a falconry and petting farm, and a new garden centre. The National Transport Museum will remain in the heart of the new development.
Over 150 new jobs will be created when the redevelopment is completed, with 100 jobs during the construction phase. The application includes a proposal to construct a new entrance to the grounds along an access road to a proposed car and coach parking area.
The Michael J Wright Group are set to take a 25 year lease on the property that was acquired by Tetrarch together with Irelands Eye from the Gaisford-St Lawrence family in 2019.
Reacting to the news, Mr. Wright commented: “The team are pleased with the decision to grant planning permission. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Howth Castle and expect it to become a key wedding and tourism destination”
The restored Castle will provide a focal point for locals and visitors to the Howth Estate. There are plans for 6km of internal walks and cycleways through the Estate with the aim of linking Sutton & Howth to further encourage active travel in Fingal. Biodiversity and sustainability will inform the redevelopment plans, with full pedestrianisation around the Castle and promotion of the Dublin Bay Biosphere and Sustainable Development Goals. Travelling to Howth Castle by public transport, bike, boat or foot will be encouraged.
Howth Castle will be a unique destination and exceptional visitor experience for not only tourists but also feature as a regular social outing for locals. Our concept marries all the senses. We want guests to adventure, experience, relax and breath. To enjoy fresh and locally sourced food; to sip, savour, and taste; to shop, dine & learn; to have unique experiences, and mostly to enjoy all that we have on offer and to return time and time again.
